hoops you must jump through for Peoria Music Scene forum

No offense, but on Peoria Music Scene forum, you can't even promote the use of alcohol, a perfectly legal and taxed drug, so I guess that rules out the Skabs and most other rock, blues, jazz, punk, noise, techno, folk, etc. bands, clubs, and other venues.

You can't even promote "the use of sex" -- you mean you can't mention the fact that you have a son or daughter, you can't promote "sex", even as a God-given pro-creative act in holy matrimony????!!!

No music groups that I know of can meet such stringent moral standards, hell, not even individual people can be so "pure" and non-controversial. Doesn't this negate the whole free speech democracy of the web revolution? I'm glad this Live Music Peoria site is more liberal in it's approach to a music forum.

What gets me is the express ban on "inaccurate" statements. This is highly subjective. If you posted "Str8 Sounds sucks, it's just random disorganized noise", the site administrator could decide that remark is "inaccurate" because I also do reggae and techno music, so the comment could be removed and the user banned from the site.

It's rock and roll, for Pete's sake! It's like you have to abandon your music persona and become a choir boy to get in, just to SEE the content!

Can someone explain why Peoria Music Scene forces you to sign up for an account BEFORE YOU EVEN SEE ANY CONTENT on the site? As a web analyst, I can state categorically that these restrictions are NOT common for a blog or forum, and especially not for one devoted to rock or other popular genres of music.

It reminds me, and consider this "gentle teasing" and not an attack, of how cigarettes are banned from bars. I'm sure there's a good explanation for all these hoops a user must jump through, prior to even seeing, much less posting comments or topic threads, on the site.

My guess is that they had some really terrible trolls that caused users to commit suicide or something, and that's why they had to put up all these rules and stipulations and threats.

But I hope someone will give the actual explanation.

P.S. Having been involved in blogocombat for over 6 years now, and having been marginally involved in the infamous Kathy Sierra vs. Mean Kids death threat and abusive comments fiasco, I can tell them this: it's nearly impossible to "take legal action" against internet users and comment posters.

I have exposed a famous team troll called Amanda Chapel, and they try to sue and get people fired from their jobs (like "for blogging while on company time"), and I attacked these jerks, who use filthy language as they troll others, and while they Twittered a death threat at me ("when we come to power, you'll be the first one we whack", etc.) ... and I happen to know a few things about trolls, TOS, and internet law.

as a member of that board, I can tell you that NO ONE on it follows such strict regulations. but still those are crazy rules. and I agree with you, it all probably has lots to do with trolls and interwebs spamers.

fuckallthat. a friend suggested i check out that forum a while back. i decided not to set up an account. now i remember why. that's like walking 10 miles to buy a candy bar that you know nothing about. i'd at least like to know if it has caramel and nuts or if it's just a bunch of nugut (how the hell do you spell that) before i go through the hassle. i'll stick with my favorite rinky-dink forum LMP.

PS what i meant by "rinky-dink" was exactly the same reason for atomic's "haha" - there is currently only a handful of us who actually participate here. it had nothing to do with this site's perceived potential, because i believe that is great.

What IS the deal with that site. Our show listing is up there for Eamon's but no date and venue. What the??? Does someone just steal comments from this site and put them up there? Tom, who is MACscr?
Do you really have to become a member in order to get show information? That is totally retarded if so, and sad. Someone fill me in.

a quick run down.

that site is NOT a difinative music site. it is more like a few small groups of friends who happen to enjoy similar music who have a message board and a few other people who post. you do have to be a member, but anybody can join. that is it. dont read too much into it. i am friends with enough people on that board and I know MOST of them dont go to this board, so I make sure to post shows on both sites. also i know Miah and some others who are on that board probably lurk here and post shows from this site that others might be interested in.

its not that big of a deal people...... haha
